Wearing Your Retainer

After treatment is complete, we create a custom retainer and ask you to wear it every night while sleeping. Most patients find they barely notice it. A small, consistent habit goes a long way toward protecting a smile that took months to create.

Which Retainer Is Right for You?

We offer three types of retainers, and Dr. Gorton will recommend the best option based on your bite and treatment history.

Clear Retainers

Slim, nearly invisible, and custom-fitted to your teeth. Clear retainers offer the same comfortable fit as Invisalign aligners and are a wonderful choice for patients who completed treatment with clear aligners.

Traditional Wire Retainers

A wire across the front teeth set in a custom acrylic base. Durable, easy to handle, and available in a wide range of colors and designs — patients can even create their own custom look, making the retainer an extension of their personality.

Bonded Retainers

A thin wire bonded to the back of the lower front teeth provides continuous, effortless retention with zero daily management. Bonded retainers are a wonderful option for patients who want permanent peace of mind built right into their smile.

Retainer Care Tips

A well-maintained retainer keeps your smile looking great and lasts for years.

  • Soak or rinse your retainer in hydrogen peroxide regularly for a thorough, fresh clean
  • Store your retainer in a denture cleaner to keep it at it’s best
  • Keep a backup set somewhere safe so you always have a spare ready to go
  • Hold onto your last set of Invisalign aligners as a convenient travel retainer backup
  • Always store retainers in their case
